About our farm

TÖMTE TORP

Our farm, Tömte Torp, is located on the edge of a forest. We look out over the village of Sunnemo, which lies in the province of Värmland. The homestead is three hectares, one forested and the rest a meadow where the sheep graze and a large fruit and vegetable garden.

In addition to our traditional Swedish house, there is also a large wooden barn in which we converted the old block-walled stables into my pottery studio. Because it gets very cold here in the winter, the stable walls are 40 centimetres thick. You can imagine how quiet it is there – the ideal place for me to work.

"The animals are essential"

ANIMALS

The animals are an essential part of our lives. The sheep produce manure for the vegetable garden and wool for spinning, knitting, weaving and felting. Occasionally they provide us with meat and skins. We produce everything sustainably and organically.

SHEEP

Our flock consists of twelve Värmland ewes. This is a heritage breed from our region that is well-adapted to the climate. These sheep are somewhat more compactly built and have small ears and a short tail. Each has its own unique colour and wool.

They are social animals and can easily be kept in small flocks. They love woody stems, which is a good thing: their nibbling keeps the field open and prevents the meadow from turning into forest. This allows wildflowers and herbs to thrive in the margins. Keeping sheep is therefore also beneficial for landscape management.

We spend a lot of time with our sheep, and they enjoy being stroked and cuddled.
